Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join an SEN School in Belper on a long-term basis starting in September. The role is temporary, with potential to become permanent via Milk Academy.

You will support pupils with additional needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis, help access the curriculum, and work with the class teacher to implement EHCP targets. A patient, empathetic and resilient approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in SEN/education.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach with genuine passion.
• Strong communication and relationship-building with pupils, staff and families.
• Ability to adapt to individual needs and stay calm in challenging situations.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, responding to their individual learning and emotional needs.

• Working alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging lessons and implement EHCP targets and support strategies.
• Promoting a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages confidence, independence and personal development.

Requirements or Skills:

• Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN, education, care or support setting.
• A patient, empathetic and resilient approach with a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• The ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils and remain calm in challenging situations.
• A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities within an educational setting.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider school team.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
