Job summary

GSL Education Hull Branch is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work across Hull schools, providing tailored support to pupils with SEN. The role includes one-to-one or small-group support, helping learners access lessons and grow independence, with a focus on social and emotional development.

The ideal candidate will have patient, empathetic communication and a good understanding of needs such as Autism and ADHD, with a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN or additional needs is desirable.
• A patient, nurturing, and empathetic approach to supporting individual learners.
• An understanding of needs such as Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or communication needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The resilience and flexibility to respond calmly to challenging or changing situations.
• A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping pupils achieve their potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEN and additional needs.
• Assist pupils in accessing lessons, completing activities, and developing greater independence.
• Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning, communication, emotional, and behavioural needs.
• Encourage confidence, resilience, positive social interaction, and engagement with learning.
• Support positive behaviour and help pupils manage emotional or sensory challenges.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and provide consistent individualised support.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and wider support staff to help pupils access learning and participate positively in school life. You may provide one-to-one or small-group support, adapting your approach to meet individual learning, communication, emotional, and behavioural needs.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Provide an up-to-date CV and references covering the last 2 years.
• Have recent experience working with children or young people.
• Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
