SEN Teaching Assistant | September 2025

Location: Whetstone, Barnet

5 days per week, ongoing

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience

Are you a compassionate, confident SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a new challenge? If so, Teach Plus wants to hear from you.

Teach Plus is working with a small, SEND school in Whetstone, Barnet, recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to support children with Autism and complex SEMH needs starting in September 2025.

The school is a warm, supportive, Outstanding SEND school providing a therapeutic and nurturing environment. It combines an outstanding curriculum with rich pastoral care, prioritizing support for children with complex needs.

The role involves supporting children aged 11-16 with Autism and SEMH needs across several classes. A genuine passion for working with children with SEND is essential. Experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Interviews/trials are scheduled immediately.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting children both inside and outside the classroom following the class teacher and SENCO's guidance
  • Implementing activity and intervention plans provided by the class teacher
  • Supporting individual and group learning
  • Creating a warm, nurturing environment to ensure the child's safety and well-being

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, such as Autism and Complex Needs (not essential)
  • A passion for supporting children with complex needs
  • A resilient, proactive attitude with the ability to adapt quickly and handle challenging situations calmly and patiently
  • The ability to build rapport and respond to individual needs
  • Ability to follow guidance from the class teacher, SENCO, and external agencies like Speech and Language Therapists
