Job summary

Connex Education is seeking a patient and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to support a specialist school in Waltham Forest. This full-time, long-term role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference to children with complex needs, with specialist training provided.

You will work closely with teachers, therapists and SEND professionals to support learning, communication and personal development in a well-resourced setting.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or complex needs is desirable.
• Knowledge of Makaton, communication aids or sensory learning approaches is useful.
• Patient, hands-on and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Willingness to provide personal care where required.
• An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism and complex physical needs during lessons and activities.
• Assist with sensory learning, communication activities and practical life skills.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and SEND professionals to follow individual support plans.
• Provide mobility support and personal care where required.
• Encourage pupil engagement, independence and confidence throughout the school day.
• Celebrate progress and contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
