SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School in Thornton (FY5)

The Role:
We're working closely with a welcoming and well-resourced primary school in Thornton that is looking to appoint a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This is a full-time position, ideally starting as soon as possible, with the potential to continue for the remainder of this academic year and into September 2025.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  1. Supporting pupils with Autism on a 1:1 basis and in small group settings
  2. Assisting the class teacher with planning and delivering tailored interventions
  3. Creating a calm, safe, and engaging learning environment
  4. Encouraging the development of social skills, communication, and independence
  5. Liaising with parents, carers, and external professionals where necessary

What We’re Looking For:

  1. Experience working with children with Autism or within an SEN setting (in a school or similar environment)
  2. A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to support
  3. A genuine desire to help children reach their full potential
  4. A relevant qualification in education, psychology, or childcare is a plus – but not essential
  5. Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply for one)
