Educato Limited is recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant for a highly specialist secondary SEN school in Bolton starting September. You will support pupils aged 11–19 with complex needs, helping them access personalised learning and develop independence.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with pupils with complex needs is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are working with a highly specialist secondary SEN school in Bolton to recruit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with young people with complex additional needs and wants to develop their experience within a specialist educational setting.

The school supports young people aged 11-19 with a wide range of learning difficulties and additional needs. Pupils have highly individualised education programmes, with support focused not only on academic development but also on communication, independence, social skills, emotional wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.

About the Pupils

The school caters for pupils with a range of complex needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition, including pupils who may have significant communication and social interaction difficulties.
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties, with pupils requiring differentiated learning and additional support to access the curriculum.
  • Severe Learning Difficulties, with some pupils requiring highly personalised learning programmes and intensive adult support.
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, including pupils with significant cognitive, physical and communication needs.
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs, including pupils who may use alternative or augmentative communication methods.
  • ADHD and associated attention, regulation and behavioural needs.
  • SEMH needs, where pupils may require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour and building positive relationships.
The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils access their education and develop greater independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEN.
  • Supporting pupils with communication and interaction difficulties.
  • Helping pupils access personalised learning programmes.
  • Supporting pupils with sensory needs and emotional regulation.
  • Encouraging independence and developing essential life skills.
  • Supporting practical, vocational and classroom-based activities.
  • Following individual EHCP targets and personalised support plans.
  • Using visual resources, communication strategies and other appropriate interventions.
  • Supporting positive behaviour through a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, pastoral staff and other professionals.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, social skills and preparation-for-adulthood skills.

The successful candidate will be someone who is patient, resilient, compassionate and genuinely passionate about SEN.

Experience working with pupils with complex needs is highly desirable, particularly experience with:
  • Autism
  • PMLD or SLD
  • Non-verbal pupils
  • Communication difficulties
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Challenging or distressed behaviour
  • EHCPs and personalised learning plans

You may come from a school, care, support work, healthcare or youth-work background. What is most important is your ability to build trusting relationships, remain calm under pressure and adapt your approach to meet the needs of individual pupils.

£110.00+ per day.

  • Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm.
