Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and creating an inclusive learning environment?

GSL Education are currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive school in Ashington. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a full-time basis and make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with additional needs.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide individualised support to students with a range of special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Your role will involve working both 1:1 and in small groups, helping to ensure each child can access the curriculum and thrive in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with EHCPs and identified SEN needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering structured interventions and differentiated lessons.
  • Encourage pupil engagement and build strong relationships based on trust and understanding.
  • Monitor and report progress to SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Support emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies.
  • Promote independence and social integration within the classroom.

Requirements of SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, either in a school, care, or alternative provision setting.
  • Strong understanding of various learning needs, including ASD, ADHD, and SEMH.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with pupils.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
