Job summary

Operam Education is seeking an SEN Teacher for a large, outstanding-rated secondary complex needs school in Walthamstow, East London. The role starts in September and runs long-term, with pupils aged 11–19 who have Autism and complex communication needs.

You will join a school dedicated to personalised learning pathways and strong wellbeing for all pupils. You will plan differentiated lessons, support communication and life skills, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with Autism and complex needs.
  • Support development of communication, independence and life skills across the curriculum.
  • Write and review EHCPs and personalised learning plans with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Create a structured, nurturing classroom environment where pupils feel safe and motivated.
  • Collaborate with therapists, support staff and families to ensure positive outcomes.

This is a long-term opportunity starting in September, supporting secondary-aged pupils aged 11–19 with Autism and complex communication needs, in a school that has built its entire culture around helping young people grow, communicate and thrive.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with Autism and complex learning needs
  • Supporting the development of communication, independence and life skills across the curriculum
  • Writing and reviewing EHCPs and personalised learning plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
  • Creating a structured, nurturing classroom environment where pupils feel safe and motivated
  • Working alongside therapists, support staff and families to ensure the best outcomes for every pupil

  • QTS and experience teaching in a special or SEN school setting
  • Confidence working with pupils with Autism and complex communication needs at secondary level
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential and grow in independence
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
