Job summary

Supply Desk is seeking an inspirational and dedicated Post-16 SEN Teacher to join a specialist school in the Borehamwood area. This role involves teaching and supporting young people aged 16–19 with ASC and SEMH, preparing them for greater independence and life beyond school.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons for Post-16 learners with ASC and SEMH needs.
  • Prepare students for adulthood by embedding independence, employability, functional literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
  • Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes emotional wellbeing and positive engagement.
  • Use IEPs and EHCP outcomes to inform teaching, assessment, and target setting.
  • Work closely with therapists, families and external agencies to provide a holistic approach to student development.
  • Monitor progress, celebrate achievements, and adapt teaching approaches to meet each learner's potential.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities and community-based learning with progression to further education, employment, or supported living.

  • Use individual education plans and EHCP outcomes to inform teaching, assessment, and target setting
  • Implement positive behaviour support strategies to encourage self-regulation, resilience, and confidence
  • Work closely with therapists, support staff, families, and external agencies to provide a holistic approach to student development
  • Monitor progress, celebrate achievements, and adapt teaching approaches to ensure every learner reaches their potential
  • Contribute to enrichment activities, community-based learning, and preparation for further education, employment, or supported living
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, or other additional learning needs
  • A strong understanding of personalised learning and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
