Job description

Location: Chadwell Heath, Romford
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-time, Temp/Temp-Perm for right candidate
Salary: Paid to scale

About Us: We are recruiting for a specialized school dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for secondary-aged students with severe and profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The school is committed to ensuring that each student has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their individual needs, and we are now looking for two passionate, dedicated, and qualified SEN Teachers to join the team.

The Role: We are looking to fill two positions within the school:

  • KS2 Complex Needs & Medical Class:

This class consists of 7 students, all of whom are non-verbal and in wheelchairs. These students have complex medical needs, and the successful candidate will work closely with medical professionals and specialist support staff to provide an environment that caters to both their educational and physical needs.

  • KS2 Sensory Class:

This class also consists of non-verbal students, all of whom are ambulant. These pupils require tailored sensory learning approaches that engage them in a meaningful way. The successful candidate will work to develop sensory-rich lessons that help support the communication and social development of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess differentiated lessons that cater to the individual needs of students with severe and profound learning difficulties.
  • Work closely with other professionals, including support staff and medical teams, to ensure holistic care and education for students.
  • Implement personalized learning strategies that focus on sensory development, communication, and life skills.
  • Support students' communication through augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods.
  • Promote a safe, caring, and stimulating environment that enhances students' personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Maintain and monitor students' progress and adapt teaching strategies to ensure continuous development.
  • Contribute to the creation and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other relevant documentation.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, or experience working in a similar setting.
  • Experience teaching students with severe and profound learning difficulties, preferably within a secondary or special education setting.
  • Knowledge of a range of strategies for teaching non-verbal and ambulant students with complex needs.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including medical professionals, teaching assistants, and therapists.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to teaching.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in terms of using alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices).

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in supporting medical needs in the classroom, particularly with students who are wheelchair-bound.
  • Training or experience in the use of sensory integration techniques or sensory processing disorders.
  • Familiarity with working with students who require additional health and care support.

Why Join Us?

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • A rewarding role that makes a real difference in the lives of our students.
  • A committed team of staff who are dedicated to providing the best care and education for students with complex needs.

If you are passionate about working with students who have severe and profound learning difficulties and are committed to providing an outstanding education, we would love to hear from you.
