Job description

A new annex site within central Newham that caters exclusively to Year 7 students is actively seeking an experienced teacher for a temporary contract starting in September 2025. This site is attached to a mainstream secondary school and supports only Year 7 students with autism and complex needs, particularly those struggling with the transition from primary to secondary education.

Operating as part of a trust that functions across East London, this special school offers excellent development and training opportunities, with a focus on staff retention and supporting talent. It provides a fantastic environment to expand or acquire new skills within a special needs setting.

As this role is primarily cover, we are seeking teachers with experience in an SEN setting. However, mainstream teachers with experience working with SEN students are also encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

  • QTS or equivalent
  • Special Education Degree (desirable)
  • Experience in a special school setting preferred, or strong experience working with SEN children in a professional environment
  • Experience with children displaying SLD, ASC, SPLD
  • Ability to teach individuals or small groups of pupils, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Ability to prepare lessons and resources
  • Experience in marking and assessing work
  • Skill in developing and adapting teaching methods to meet individual pupil needs
  • Ability to liaise with professionals such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists
  • Strong behaviour management skills
