Job description

Inspire Curiosity. Build Confidence. Change Lives.

At Haven Nook School, we believe that education is about much more than qualifications. It is about helping young people understand themselves, their communities, and the world around them.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and dedicated Humanities Teacher to join our specialist independent SEN school.

This is an exciting opportunity to teach a broad curriculum whilst making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs. You will work in a nurturing, values-led environment where relationships come first, individuality is celebrated, and every success matters.

About Haven Nook School

Haven Nook School is a specialist independent school supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, PDA, SEMH needs, and associated learning differences.

Our approach is built on strong relationships, emotional wellbeing, personalised learning, and high aspirations. We are proud of our warm, family-oriented culture where every student is known, valued, and encouraged to achieve success in their own unique way.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate Teacher who can bring subjects such as History, Geography, Religious Studies, Citizenship, and wider Humanities topics to life.

You will create engaging learning experiences that encourage curiosity, discussion, exploration, and critical thinking. Through your teaching, students will develop a deeper understanding of people, places, cultures, and society, whilst building confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will help create a learning environment where students feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Has experience teaching Humanities subjects at Key Stage 3 and/or 4.
  • Has experience working with, or a strong commitment to supporting, young people with Special Educational Needs.
  • Can make learning accessible, engaging, and meaningful for students with diverse needs.
  • Builds positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • Is creative, adaptable, and solution-focused.
  • Shares our commitment to nurturing both academic achievement and personal development.
  • Believes every young person can succeed with the right support and encouragement.
Why Join Us?

At Haven Nook, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference every day.

We offer:
  • Small class sizes and meaningful relationships with students.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • The opportunity to shape and develop Humanities provision within the school.
  • Ongoing professional development, including Thrive training.
  • Opportunities for career progression and leadership development.
  • Access to Yulife wellbeing and medical support app.
  • Life insurance, pension scheme, and healthcare cash plan.
  • A warm, caring school community where staff wellbeing matters.
The Difference You'll Make

For many of our students, Humanities provides an opportunity to understand the wider world, develop empathy, build confidence in expressing opinions, and make meaningful connections between learning and everyday life.

If you are passionate about helping young people discover their place in the world and achieve their potential, we'd love to hear from you.

Haven Nook School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to enhanced DBS and safer recruitment checks
