Job description

SEN Teacher - Complex Needs (KS3, KS4 or Post-16)

West London | Specialist SEN School | Full-Time | Long-Term / Permanent
£45,000 - £60,000 + SEN Allowance | September Start

Are you an experienced SEND teacher looking to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people with severe and complex learning needs?

Do you thrive in highly specialist settings where teamwork, creativity and personalised learning are at the heart of everything you do?

Would you like to join a well-established specialist school where you'll be supported by experienced multidisciplinary professionals and outstanding classroom teams?

A highly respected specialist SEN school in West London is looking to appoint committed and enthusiastic Teachers to join its team this September. Opportunities are available across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Post-16, with placements matched to your experience and strengths.

The school supports pupils aged 11-19 with severe and profound learning disabilities, alongside Autism, ADHD, complex medical needs and associated communication difficulties. Many pupils are working well below age-related expectations and require highly personalised teaching, structured routines and consistent support to access learning and achieve their EHCP outcomes.

Classes are intentionally small and well staffed, allowing teachers to build strong relationships with pupils while delivering an individualised curriculum focused on communication, independence, functional life skills and preparation for adulthood. Pupils benefit from regular community-based learning, sensory approaches and a highly practical curriculum designed around their individual needs.

You'll work closely with experienced Teaching Assistants, therapists, nurses and pastoral staff to provide an ambitious, nurturing education that enables every pupil to make meaningful progress, however that progress may look.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering highly differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.

  • Teaching pupils with severe learning disabilities (SLD), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), Autism and additional complex needs.

  • Delivering personalised learning using structured teaching approaches, visual supports and sensory strategies.

  • Supporting pupils with communication needs, including AAC, PECS and other alternative communication methods where appropriate.

  • Promoting independence, emotional regulation, life skills and engagement through creative, practical learning.

  • Leading and working collaboratively with experienced Teaching Assistants to maximise pupil progress.

  • Working alongside Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists and nursing teams.

  • Monitoring progress through ongoing assessment and contributing to Annual Reviews and EHCP targets.

  • Supporting educational visits and community learning opportunities where appropriate.

  • Building strong partnerships with parents, carers and external professionals.

  • Promoting safeguarding, wellbeing and high expectations for every learner.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching pupils with SEND within either specialist or mainstream settings.

  • A good understanding of Autism, severe learning difficulties and adaptive teaching strategies.

  • Confidence leading classes supported by Teaching Assistants.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour support.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • A genuine passion for helping young people with complex needs achieve their potential.

What the school offers:

  • Salary between £45,000 and £60,000, depending on experience, plus SEN Allowance.

  • Opportunities across KS3, KS4 and Post-16, allowing you to teach within your preferred phase.

  • Outstanding specialist SEND training and ongoing CPD.

  • A highly experienced multidisciplinary team including Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and specialist nursing staff.

  • Excellent staffing ratios with significant classroom support.

  • Modern specialist facilities including sensory environments, life skills spaces and therapeutic learning areas.

  • Clear progression opportunities into curriculum leadership, pathway leadership and senior management.

  • A collaborative and welcoming staff team committed to delivering exceptional outcomes for pupils with the most complex needs.

Whether you're already working within specialist education or you're a mainstream teacher looking to transition into a highly supportive SEND environment, this is an excellent opportunity to join one of West London's leading specialist schools and make a lasting impact on the lives of young people with complex learning needs.
