Job summary

Protocol Education are recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with BSL skills to support pupils within a specialist provision in Sunderland. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, using BSL to aid learning, and helping pupils access the curriculum.

Ideal candidates will have SEND experience, a patient adaptable approach, strong communication and ability to work closely with teachers and the SEND team. This is a term-time full-time role with school hours and pay £98–£120 per day.

Qualifications

• BSL skills and SEND awareness are essential.
• Experience supporting children or young people is desirable.
• Experience in education, care or support roles is preferred.
• Patient and adaptable approach is important.
• Strong communication skills are required.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Use BSL to support learning and communication.
• Help pupils access the curriculum.
• Support social development and independence.
• Reinforce classroom routines and behaviour.
• Assist with transitions and support emotional/sensory regulation.
