Job summary

Protocol Education Limited is seeking a BSL & Communication Support Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist SEN setting in Sunderland. The role focuses on using BSL to aid pupil communication, independence, and learning during school hours in a term-time contract.

The successful candidate will work 1:1 or in small groups, collaborating with teachers and SEND staff to support transitions, behavior, and social interaction.

• Strong communicator
• Reliable and consistent
• Passionate about inclusive education
• Previous experience in SEN school, deaf education, communication support, care or education would be highly beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Using BSL to support communication
• Helping pupils understand and follow instructions
• Supporting classroom learning
• Working 1:1 and in small groups
• Encouraging communication and social interaction
• Supporting pupils during transitions
