Descrição da vaga

SEN Learning Mentor – Redbridge

Location: Redbridge
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-term until July 2027
Pay: £93–£110 per day

Are you ready to make a real difference to children who need a little extra support to find their way back into learning?

Academics are recruiting an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Learning Mentor in Redbridge to support children and young people with additional needs who are currently unable to access a traditional school environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who understands that every child’s circumstances are different and that progress often starts with trust, patience and encouragement. Rather than working in a typical classroom setting, you'll have the opportunity to support pupils in familiar surroundings, such as their homes or suitable community settings, helping them feel safe, build confidence and reconnect with education at their own pace.

What makes this role different?

For some children, anxiety or emotional challenges can make attending school difficult. Others may have additional needs that mean they require a more individual approach to learning.

What will you be doing?
  • Building trusting relationships with children and young people with SEND.
  • Supporting learning in areas such as reading, writing and maths at a pace suited to each pupil.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, emotional regulation and independence.
  • Adapting activities to meet individual learning needs and interests.
  • Communicating with parents, carers and other professionals to support progress.
  • Celebrating achievements and encouraging pupils to take positive steps towards re-engaging with education.

Your role will be to build a positive relationship with each pupil, understand what helps them engage and provide consistent support that makes learning feel achievable again. Small steps forward can lead to significant progress, and your encouragement could make all the difference.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs, particularly those experiencing SEMH challenges, anxiety or difficulties accessing school.

Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA, Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor or within alternative provision would be valuable. Education or psychology graduates may also be considered if they meet the school-experience requirement. You’ll be patient, adaptable and resilient, with the ability to recognise that every small achievement matters.

Why apply?
  • £93–£110 per day, depending on experience.
  • ASAP start through to July 2027.
  • A rewarding opportunity to provide individualised SEN support.
  • The chance to help pupils rebuild confidence and reconnect with learning.
  • Valuable experience for those looking to progress within SEN, education, mentoring or educational psychology.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client’s pay policy.
