About the School

They are a pioneering and highly supportive specialist setting dedicated to providing high-quality education for pupils aged 4 to 19 with autism spectrum conditions (ASC) and related speech, language, and communication needs. They pride themselves on creating a calm, structured, and sensory-friendly learning environment where every individual is encouraged to thrive, build independence, and achieve their full potential. With exceptional facilities, tailored learning pathways, and a strong emphasis on positive behaviour support, they offer a genuinely rewarding environment where staff, therapy teams, and pupils work collaboratively every day.

Role and Responsibilities

In this flexible cover role, you will step into classrooms across different key stages to cover planned or short-notice staff absences. Your key duties will include:

  • Maintaining a calm, safe, and structured classroom environment tailored to the sensory and emotional needs of pupils.

  • Facilitating engagement using visual schedules, symbol systems, and clear, adapted communication.

  • Directing and working alongside classroom teaching assistants to ensure consistency and positive behavior support throughout the day.

  • Providing clear handovers and feedback to regular class teams regarding pupil progress and classroom dynamics.

Skills Required

  • Good foundational knowledge of autism spectrum conditions, sensory processing differences, and communication strategies.

  • Skills in positive behaviour management, low-arousal approaches, and de-escalation techniques.

  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to connect effectively with pupils and school staff.

Essential Requirements
  • Relevant experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs (SEN) within an educational, care, or support setting.

  • A strong, patient, and empathetic personality with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
