Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an Autism Spectrum Disorder Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Tendring, Essex from September 2026. This full-time, long-term opportunity offers dedicated consultant support and access to CPD.

You will work with teachers and the SEN team to provide tailored support to pupils with autism, assisting with learning, communication and social development, and helping create a calm, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Experience working with children with SEN or complex learning needs is preferred.
  • Able to support learning, communication and social development in inclusive settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with ASD.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Teaching Assistant - Tendring, Essex.

Full-Time | September 2026 Start | Long-Term Opportunity

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for a dedicated and compassionate Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in the Tendring area of Essex from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, who is passionate about helping pupils to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

The Role

As an Autism Spectrum Disorder Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the school's SEN team to provide tailored support to pupils with autism and associated additional needs.

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Supporting pupils with their learning, communication and development
  • Helping pupils manage transitions, routines and changes throughout the school day
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Implementing individual support and learning strategies
  • Supporting pupils who may experience sensory processing difficulties
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social development
  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals
  • Creating a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who is patient, calm, understanding and resilient, with a genuine passion for working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Previous experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder is highly desirable. Experience with communication difficulties, sensory needs, ADHD, SEMH or complex learning needs would also be advantageous.

You may be an experienced ASD Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Autism Support Worker, Youth Worker or someone with relevant transferable experience.

Most importantly, you will understand that every child is an individual and be able to adapt your approach to meet their specific needs.
