Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment in Tendring, Essex, is seeking an Autism Spectrum Disorder Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school from September 2026. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD, helping them with learning, communication and development in a calm, structured environment.

You will work closely with teachers and the SENCO, implement individual strategies, support transitions and behaviour, and help pupils thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Qualifications

• Patient, calm, understanding and resilient with a passion for supporting pupils with ASD.
• Previous experience supporting pupils with ASD is highly desirable.
• Experience with communication difficulties, sensory needs, ADHD or SEMH is advantageous.
• Transferable experience from related roles is welcome.
• Able to adapt approaches to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with ASD.
• Support pupils' learning, communication and development.
• Help pupils manage transitions, routines and changes during the day.
• Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Implement individual learning strategies.
• Support pupils with sensory processing difficulties.
• Encourage independence, confidence and social development.
• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals.
• Create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
