Job summary

Prospero Teaching in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with complex behavioural needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to enable access to learning and to support social and emotional development.

The ideal candidate will have prior SEMH/ASD experience, a calm and empathetic approach, and strong teamwork skills. CACHE Level 2/3 is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

  • We are seeking a 1:1 TA with experience supporting pupils with complex behavioural needs (SEMH/ASD).
  • Calm, empathetic and consistent approach, with resilience under pressure.
  • Good communication and teamwork with school staff and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with complex behavioural needs in and out of the classroom.
  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
  • Build a trusting relationship to promote safety and stability.
  • Support transitions, playtimes and less structured parts of the day.
  • Follow de-escalation plans and adapt materials to needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCO and external agencies.
  • Record progress, behaviour and wellbeing; report to the team.

Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Year 2 - Complex Behaviour Needs)

Salary: GBP100 per day

Contract Type: Long term

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with complex behavioural needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a childs educational and emotional development within a supportive and nurturing school environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to provide consistent, tailored support that enables the pupil to access learning and develop positive social and emotional skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with complex behavioural needs, both in and out of the classroom
  • Implement personalised strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil to promote a sense of safety and stability
  • Support the pupil during transitions, playtimes, and less structured parts of the day
  • Use de-escalation techniques and follow agreed behaviour support plans
  • Assist in adapting learning materials to meet the pupils individual needs
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies
  • Record and report on progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working with children with complex behavioural needs (e.g. SEMH, ASD, or trauma-related behaviours)
  • A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
  • Strong behaviour management skills and resilience under pressure
  • The ability to remain patient and solution-focused in challenging situations
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential
