Job summary

Pertemps Education Network is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH School in Reading. You will support pupils to manage emotions, engage in lessons and build confidence in a nurturing environment.

The role involves working with teachers, therapists and families to implement behaviour plans, promote inclusion and help students reach their educational potential. Experience with SEMH/SEND settings is preferred; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in SEMH/SEND, alternative provision or care setting.
• Calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Support students with social, emotional and mental health needs in and outside the classroom.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and activities.
• Support students in managing emotions, behaviour and social interactions.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and intervention plans.
• Encourage participation, independence and personal development.
