Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant for a Specialist SEMH School in Preston. The role focuses on supporting pupils with SEMH needs through targeted 1:1 mentoring, small-group work, and classroom assistance.

Ideal candidates will have experience in SEN, care, youth work, mentoring, or sports coaching, and demonstrate calm, resilience, and strong communication. This is a full-time, long-term position starting in September, with specialist training and mentorship provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in SEN, care, youth work, mentoring, or sports coaching desirable.
  • Calm, resilient, and confident.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH, ADHD, autism, attachment difficulties, and trauma-related behaviours through 1:1 mentoring, small-group interventions, and classroom support.
  • Help pupils regulate emotions, build confidence, improve behaviour, and re-engage with learning.
  • Develop positive relationships based on trust, consistency, and mutual respect to aid academic and personal growth.
