Job summary

Prospero Teaching is working with a specialist SEMH school in Preston to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant for a September start. SEMH Teaching Assistant

Specialist Secondary SEMH School – Preston – Up to £600 per week – Full-Time – September Start

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Do you have the resilience, confidence, and emotional intelligence to help secondary-aged pupils overcome barriers to learning?

A specialist secondary SEMH school in Preston is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team from September. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in SEN, youth work, care, support work, sports coaching, residential care, or mentoring, as well as graduates looking to build careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Youth Justice, or SEN Education.

The Role – SEMH Teaching Assistant

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 11–16 with needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma, and behavioural challenges.

Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will provide 1:1 mentoring, classroom support, and small-group interventions, helping pupils develop emotional regulation, improve behaviour, and re-engage positively with learning.

You will play a key role in delivering behaviour support strategies, promoting restorative practice, and building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. Success in this role comes from remaining calm under pressure, maintaining consistent boundaries, and encouraging young people to develop confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
