Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd seeks a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs in North Somerset and around Bristol. The role focuses on building trust, using positive behaviour strategies, and collaborating with teachers to help each pupil succeed.

The ideal candidate is calm, patient, and genuinely passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour in school or alternative settings.
  • Calm and patient, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils.
  • Resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in the classroom and around the school.
  • Build positive relationships to help children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to help every pupil succeed.
  • Celebrate small wins that can lead to major breakthroughs.

SEMH Teaching Assistant

This isn't the easiest role you'll ever do, but it could be one of the most rewarding.

Some children need more than classroom support. They need someone who can see beyond the behaviour, build trust, and help them believe in themselves again.

  • Using positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to help every pupil succeed
  • Celebrating the small wins, because they often become the biggest breakthroughs

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Experience withSEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour(school or alternative settings)
  • Calm and patience, even in high-pressure situations
  • Aility to build strong, positive relationships with pupils
  • Resilience, empathy, and agenuine passion for supporting young people

Role:SEMH Teaching Assistant
Contract: Full-Time

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
