Job summary

Pool Hayes Academy is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students, focusing on social, emotional and mental wellbeing while helping them access the curriculum. The role involves working with vulnerable learners and those who are hard to reach, within an 11–16 age range.

You will be part of a dynamic team, delivering curriculum elements with guidance, and contributing to the academy’s culture of high achievement.

Qualifications

  • Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience of working with 11–16 age group and with vulnerable or hard-to-reach students.
  • Understanding the needs of students with SEMH and improving wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver elements of the academic curriculum with guidance from subject leaders.
  • Support social, emotional and mental wellbeing of identified students.
  • Assist students with special educational needs as required.
  • Contribute to improving attendance where appropriate.

  • Actual salary: £19,328 to £21,261 per annum
  • 32.5 Hours per week, 39 Weeks per year

Pool Hayes Academy are looking to appoint a committed and self-motivate SEMH Teaching Assistant, with a real drive to enhance students' experience of secondary education. The successful applicant will be responsible for improving the social, emotional and mental wellbeing of identified vulnerable students in order to increase their academic outcomes.

The role will include working with students with special educational needs and also includes working with students who are hard to reach and may have difficulties with attendance. This role will include delivering elements of the academic curriculum, with guidance from subject leaders, to enable students to achieve exam success.

The department is part of a well led, dynamic team, whose colleagues all enjoy supporting the Academy and its culture of outstanding success amongst our students.

The ideal candidate will have a grade 4/C or above in a range of subjects including English and Maths, have strong literacy and numeracy skills and hold a level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification. Experience of working with the 11-16 age group and working with young people who are vulnerable or hard to reach are essential. You will join an academy which is dynamic and inspiring, creating a culture of outstanding success amongst our students.
