Job summary

TimePlan Education is seeking a dedicated SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision secondary school in Thrapston, supporting students aged 11-16. The role is full-time, term-time only with hours 8:15am-3:30pm and a daily rate of £105-£125 depending on experience.

You will work closely with teachers to provide one-to-one and small-group support, help students manage emotions and develop positive behaviours, and contribute to a calm, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting SEN/SEMH or challenging behaviour is advantageous.
• Must have transport to the site or be able to drive.
• Able to follow school policies and support learning.

Responsibilities

• Support students aged 11-16 with SEN/SEMH needs in class and in small groups.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support inside and outside the classroom.

SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a dedicated SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision secondary school in Thrapston, supporting students aged 11-16.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role

As a SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to provide individualised support to students who may require additional help with their learning, behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting students aged 11-16 with a range of SEN and SEMH needs.
• Providing one-to-one and small-group support both inside and outside the classroom.
• Helping students manage their emotions and develop positive behaviours.
• Encouraging students to engage with learning and build confidence.
• Supporting students who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students.
• Assisting teachers with classroom activities and learning resources.
• Supporting students with their personal development and social skills.
• Following individual support plans and school policies.
• Working as part of a supportive and committed education team.
• Helping create a safe, calm and positive learning environment.

Previous experience working with SEN, SEMH, challenging behaviour, alternative provision, youth work or education would be advantageous.You do not necessarily need to have previous Teaching Assistant experience if you have the right attitude, transferable experience and passion for supporting young people.

Training & Career Development

As part of the role, successful candidates will be provided with an opportunity to further develop their qualifications.

Once recruited, successful candidates will be placed onto a mandatory Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.

If you already hold a Level 3 qualification, you will instead be supported to progress onto a Level 5 qualification.
