Job summary

Aspire People Limited is seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant for a role in Lutterworth. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs and help them engage with learning in a safe, nurturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have SEMH experience, a calm and empathetic approach, and a commitment to supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour management in a school setting. This is a Monday–Friday, term-time position in a specialist SEMH/SEN environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs.
• Ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour with empathy.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach in demanding situations.
• Capable of building positive relationships with pupils who may struggle to trust adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and managing their feelings.
• Help pupils develop positive coping and behavioural strategies.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
• Support classrooms with engagement and personal development.
• De-escalate difficult situations calmly and professionally.
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.

Location: Lutterworth
Pay: £105 per day
Working Pattern: Monday-Friday, term time only

Aspire People have partnered with a specialist SEN school in Lutterworth who are looking for a passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team.

This role would suit someone who has experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties and barriers to learning.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, supported and ready to engage with their education.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and managing their feelings
• Helping children develop positive coping and behavioural strategies
• Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
• Supporting pupils who may display challenging or disruptive behaviour
• Using positive reinforcement and consistent boundaries
• Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
• Supporting classroom engagement and personal development
• De-escalating difficult situations calmly and professionally
• Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
• Creating a safe, structured and nurturing environment
