Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Kettering

Are you a Youth Worker, Teaching Assistant, or Support Worker looking for a new and rewarding challenge? Do you take pride in supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs to overcome barriers to learning? Are you seeking a long-term career in teaching, advocacy, or youth justice? If so, this SEMH Teaching Assistant role in Kettering could be the perfect opportunity for you!

The Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential support to vulnerable children within a school environment. Your role will focus on helping students achieve calm and regulated moods, enabling them to access their learning and development more effectively. You will assist with self-regulation activities and techniques, ensuring students feel safe, supported, and empowered.

You will work closely with students who require additional support with their SEMH and personal needs. This includes understanding safeguarding procedures and implementing them when necessary. In some cases, you may be required to assist with elements of personal care.

This opportunity will give you invaluable experience working with students facing SEMH challenges, SEN needs, and trauma. You will gain a deeper understanding of how schools support vulnerable children and families, equipping you with key strategies that can be applied in future roles within education, social work, or youth services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs to improve engagement, regulation, and attainment.
  • Assisting with self-regulation activities to help students remain calm and focused.
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide tailored support.
  • Implementing safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Offering emotional and behavioural guidance to promote well-being and resilience.

What We Offer:

  • Full-time & permanent positions available.
  • Competitive salary: £450-£500 per week.
  • Working hours: 8:30 AM - 3:45 PM.
  • Immediate or February start dates available, depending on your circumstances.

Personal Qualities:

  • Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient when managing challenging situations.
  • Empathetic, caring, and able to build strong relationships with students.
