EdEx - Education Recruitment is seeking two SEMH Teaching Assistants for a welcoming primary school in Hounslow. You will support pupils with SEMH and related needs, delivering tailored 1:1 and small-group assistance to foster confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.

The ideal candidate may have a psychology background or prior SEMH/SEN experience, with a patient, empathetic approach and strong communication skills. Term-time only, full-time weekdays.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Psychology, Education, Criminology, Sociology or related subject would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs is desirable.
  • Patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn from teachers and support staff.
  • Genuine passion for supporting children facing barriers to learning.
  • Willingness to grow with specialist education teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and additional SEN requirements.
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils access learning and manage emotions.
  • Work alongside the class teacher and wider support team to create a positive and structured learning environment.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, social development and building positive relationships.
  • Encourage engagement, independence and confidence inside and outside the classroom.
  • Adapt approach to meet individual needs of each child.

Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant

A welcoming and nurturing specialist primary school in Hounslow is seeking 2 SEMH Teaching Assistants to join their team ASAP. This is an exciting opportunity to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs alongside a range of additional learning and developmental needs.

You will be working within a specialist setting where pupils benefit from a personalised approach to learning, with a strong focus on developing confidence, resilience, positive relationships and emotional regulation. You will work closely with the class teacher and other support staff to help pupils engage with learning and reach their full potential.

The ideal candidate for the SEMH Teaching Assistant role would be a Psychology graduate looking to pursue a career in Education, Therapy, Psychological Research, Mental Health, Speech and Language and many more! Alternatively, someone with previous SEMH, SEN or behavioural support experience and a genuine passion for making a difference would be well suited to this opportunity.
