Job summary

Vision for Education is seeking a SEMH Support Assistant in Billingham to join a dedicated team supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, and related needs. The role involves working with children in small groups, fostering positive relationships and delivering targeted support.

The successful candidate will have prior experience with SEND, be comfortable with SEMH support and personal care, and hold the right to work in the UK. Start date is September 2026 (or sooner).

Qualifications

  • Experience working with primary or secondary school aged children.
  • Experience working with SEND / Disabilities.
  • Comfortable providing SEMH support and personal care.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Right to work in the UK and reliable transport or access to it.

Responsibilities

  • Support children and young people with SEMH needs in small groups.
  • Deliver calm, positive behaviour support within the classroom.
  • Assist with personal care where required and promote safety.
  • Develop trusting relationships with learners and staff.

The Role and School

This provision, based in Billingham has a great opportunity for a SEMH Support Assistant to support children and young people with SEMH learning needs.

Working in this school as part of an established team, the desired SEMH Support Assistant will be working on a small group sized basis with pupils with SEND including SEMH, Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties as well as Attachment and Trauma.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of working with primary or secondary school aged children
  • Experience working with people with SEND / Disabilities
  • Comfortable with providing SEMH support as well as personal care
  • Able to build positive relationships with people from a range of backgrounds
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Drive or be willing to use public transport.
