Job description

The Headteacher and Governors are looking to appoint a dedicated and motivated science teacher to join our supportive team. We work with vulnerable young people who are in hospital due to mental health needs. The successful candidate will need to be committed to inspiring young people to achieve a brighter future. During their hospital admission, we focus on educational continuity, recovery, and next steps.

The successful candidate must be prepared to teach outside their specialism. They must also support pupils in completing work from their home schools and colleges and deliver education in the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver engaging and effective science lessons in line with the national curriculum and the school’s ethos.
  2. Support pupils in completing qualifications in mathematics, such as GCSE and Functional Skills.
  3. Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to enhance pupil understanding and performance.
  4. Assess and monitor pupil progress, providing constructive feedback to support their learning journey.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  6. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages pupil participation and respect for all.
The successful candidate will have:
  1. A strong background and experience teaching at KS3 and KS4 with knowledge of the primary curriculum.
  2. A passion for science education and a commitment to inspiring pupils.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  4. A proactive approach to professional development and a willingness to engage in ongoing training and collaboration.
  5. Knowledge of current educational practices and a commitment to improving pupil outcomes.
  6. Drive and determination, with a willingness to go the extra mile to support vulnerable students.
  7. Experience working with school-age children and/or post-16 students.
  8. A full driving licence and willingness to work across different sites and in student homes if required.
  9. An understanding of the complexities of working with young people who have not attended school for some time.
