Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is recruiting a dedicated SEMH Learning Support Officer for a Primary PRU in the Salford area.

The role focuses on supporting pupils with SEMH needs inside and outside the classroom, building positive relationships and sustaining engagement in learning. The ideal candidate will have experience with SEMH or additional needs, strong behaviour management, empathy, resilience, and a willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional learning needs.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or attachment needs is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build trusting relationships and support pupils who may have experienced trauma or disruption.
• Support emotional regulation and promote positive coping strategies.
• Deliver interventions focused on social skills, emotional wellbeing and behaviour management.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities.
• De-escalate challenging situations using a calm, restorative approach.
• Promote attendance, engagement and participation in learning.
• Support pupils during break times, enrichment activities and educational visits.
• Work with teachers, families, therapists and external professionals.
• Accurately record pupil progress and behavioural incidents.
