Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a committed SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join partner schools in Redhill, Horley, Burstow, and Copthorne. You will support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and engage with learning in a nurturing environment.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, families, and external professionals to deliver tailored, trauma-informed support, build positive relationships, and contribute to progress reviews and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience working with SEMH, SEND or similar needs.
• Understanding trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.
• Calm, patient, and professional under challenging circumstances.
• Ability to build relationships based on trust, consistency and respect.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children.
• Passion for helping vulnerable young people reach their potential.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, professional relationships with pupils and act as a role model.
• Provide trauma-informed and restorative support for SEMH needs.
• Deliver targeted interventions to improve behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support during lessons.
• Respond calmly to challenging behaviour following school policies.
• Contribute to behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and reviews.
• Work with teachers, safeguarding leads, families and external agencies.
• Promote an inclusive, safe learning environment.
• Monitor, record, and report pupil progress and behaviour.
