Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Croydon, supporting pupils aged 4-16 with SEMH needs, autism and challenging behaviour. The role offers hands-on experience working with vulnerable young people and contributes to understanding behaviour and trauma.

You will work closely with teachers to help pupils feel safe, engaged and able to access education, using restorative approaches and one-to-one or small-group support. Term-time pattern applies.

Qualifications

• A degree in Psychology, Criminology, Youth & Community Work or a related subject is desirable.
• Graduates are welcome, with relevant experience in youth work, mentoring, social care or education considered.

Responsibilities

• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage trust and engagement.
• Support young people to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.
• Provide academic and emotional support on a one-to-one or small-group basis.
• Support pupils who may be at risk of exclusion to remain engaged with education.
• Assist teachers with lessons and classroom activities.
• Use positive behaviour strategies, restorative approaches and de-escalation techniques.
• Help pupils develop confidence, independence and important life skills.
• Support young people to develop strategies that will help them both in and outside of school.
