Job summary

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEMH Learning Mentor to join a specialist secondary school in Salford. You will deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage in lessons and develop essential social and emotional skills.

You will collaborate with teachers, families, and external professionals to create a supportive, structured environment and promote positive behavioural strategies across the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, residential care, sports coaching, mentoring, support work, or similar settings.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence in managing challenging behaviour professionally and positively.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Ability to adapt to individual needs of pupils in different situations.

Responsibilities

• Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs.
• Support pupils to engage positively in lessons and learning activities.
• Build strong, professional relationships that promote trust, confidence, and personal growth.
• Use restorative practices and de-escalation strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Encourage resilience, self-esteem, and positive decision-making.
• Support students during social times, transitions, and unstructured periods.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, families, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
• Act as a positive role model, promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
