Job summary

Symphony is seeking a Security Placement Student to gain hands-on experience protecting critical infrastructure, learning secure communications, and supporting security operations, risk management, and compliance initiatives.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to monitor, assess, and strengthen security posture while developing core information security skills during a 9‑month placement in Belfast with mentorship and real-world project exposure.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field.
• Core Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of networks (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs), OS (Linux, Windows), and cybersecurity principles (encryption, authentication, access control).
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving with attention to detail when analyzing logs/technical data.
• Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Work Ethic & Ethics: High integrity, discretion with sensitive data, eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Security Monitoring & Incident Support: Assist SOC in monitoring alerts, logs, and triaging events.
• Vulnerability & Asset Assessment: Support routine vulnerability scans and track remediation progress.
• Identity & Access Management: Help audit user permissions and MFA across internal tools and cloud environments.
• Security Awareness: Draft internal security communications and phishing simulations.
• Compliance & Risk Support: Assist with evidence for audits and ISO/SOC 2 certifications.
• Automation & Scripting (Optional): Write basic scripts to automate security tasks and logging.
