Job summary

Showsec is seeking a Security Officer for the Lowry in Manchester. You will ensure high security standards at the main entrance and operate the Security Control Room, maintaining safety and visitor experience.

You must hold a valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence and an SIA CCTV Licence (or be on course). The role requires night shifts, teamwork, and strong communication with staff and visitors.

Qualifications

• SIA Door Supervisor Licence is required.
• SIA CCTV Licence or booking for CCTV course.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Maths GCSE or equivalent (C or above).
• English GCSE or equivalent (C or above).
• First Aid at Work certificate or willingness to undertake training.

Responsibilities

• Manage access/e1gress control at the Lowry.
• Monitor and authorise entrance/exit for employees, contractors and others; inspect bags/vehicles as needed.
• Maintain constant staffing of the Security Control Room and monitor alarms and CCTV where licensed.
• Carry out regular internal/external patrols to deter intrusion and protect premises.
• Report incidents accurately in person or via radio; update Daily Occurrence book.

Job description

Showsec is looking for a Security Officer to join our team at the Lowry in Manchester. The role is primarily focused on delivering a high standard of security at the main entrance of the Lowry building and operating the Security Control Room, ensuring the safety and security of the site at all times. The successful candidate will also support other areas of the building when required, while providing a warm, professional, and welcoming experience for all visitors.

What you’ll be doing

• Management of access / egress control
• Monitoring and authorising the entrance and departure of employees, contractors and other persons, to guard against theft and maintain security of the premises. This may involve the examination of hand baggage, parcels, or vehicles
• Maintaining constant staffing of the Security Control Room in order to take immediate action to deal with fire alarms, intruder alarms, the communications systems, building management systems and to monitor the Lowry’s CCTV cameras if a valid SIA CCTV license is held, to be alert to any suspicious activity
• Providing regular, high profile, internal and external patrols of the premises to prevent and detect any signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors and windows. To safeguard confidential material / information
• Reporting any incidents or suspicious activities, in person or via radio communication and record accurate reports of activities and irregularities in the Daily Occurrence book.
• Monitoring of CCTV systems if a valid SIA CCTV license is held and following procedures in the event of an incident
• Comply with all company and client policies and procedures relating to the role including laws and regulatory influences

What we need from you

• Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence, along with experience within the security, crowd management or event industries
• Valid SIA CCTV Licence or an upcoming CCTV course booked
• Right to work in the UK**
• Maths GCSE or equivalent (C or above )**
• English GCSE or equivalent (C or above )**
• First Aid at Work certificate or a commitment to undertake the training once in role
• Strong interpersonal and observational skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills at all levels
• Computer literate and competent at using Microsoft Office

• Quick-thinking and the ability to deal with situations as they arise
