Job summary

Sunblink is recruiting for an experienced Section Manager to lead civils and substation construction on a major UK power infrastructure programme in Bury St Edmunds. You will coordinate site delivery, engineering interfaces and stakeholders, ensuring works are planned and executed safely and to technical standards.

The role requires strong leadership in a safety-critical environment, temporary works knowledge, and proven experience in power, utilities or major infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Oversee earthworks, foundations and drainage within a substation environment.
• Prepare RAMS, risk assessments and work packages to required standards.
• Provide technical and operational leadership across civils and temporary works.
• Monitor progress, quality and programme performance, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate with Project Manager, design teams and stakeholders to ensure delivery.

Section Manager - Substation & Civils

Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Section Manager to join a major power infrastructure project in Bury St Edmunds.

The role forms part of a significant programme supporting the UK's ongoing power infrastructure upgrade and will involve the delivery of complex civils and substation works within a live utilities environment.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take a key role in coordinating site delivery, construction teams, engineering interfaces and stakeholders, ensuring works are planned and executed safely, efficiently and to the required technical standards.

This is a safety-critical environment where strong leadership, temporary works knowledge and experience within power, utilities or major infrastructure are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop safe and efficient construction methodologies for complex civils and substation-related works.
• Manage interfaces with DNOs, ICPs and other utility stakeholders, ensuring compliance with relevant technical standards and specifications.
• Lead and promote high HSEQ standards throughout planning and construction.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams to ensure works are properly planned, resourced and ready for delivery.
• Oversee the safe delivery of earthworks, foundations, structures, drainage and associated enabling works within a substation environment.
• Ensure construction documentation, RAMS, risk assessments and work packages are prepared and implemented to the required standards.
• Provide technical and operational leadership across civils, temporary works and interface activities.
• Monitor progress, quality and programme performance, identifying risks and opportunities throughout delivery.
• Work closely with the Project Manager, design teams and wider stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Section Manager with a strong civils background and experience working on substation, power, utilities or major infrastructure projects.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience delivering civils works within power, utilities, substations or major infrastructure.
• Experience managing construction within live or safety-critical environments.
• Experience working to utility standards, technical specifications and permit-to-work systems.
• A strong understanding of CDM 2015, temporary works and construction risk management.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience coordinating multiple contractors, engineering teams and project stakeholders.
• Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) experience - essential.
• SMSTS or equivalent site management qualification.
• Earthworks Level 3 or equivalent civils qualification/experience.
• CDM 2015 Awareness, including Client and Principal Contractor responsibilities.
• Safety leadership training relevant to utilities, power or infrastructure environments.
