Job summary

Contract Scotland is seeking an experienced Section Foreman to lead a major energy infrastructure project in the North East of Scotland. The role involves overseeing a section of works, supervising direct labour, Gangers and subcontractors, and ensuring safety, quality and programme compliance on a long-term scheme with accommodation provided.

You will input into work packages, risk assessments and toolbox talks, monitor progress against plans, and coordinate resources to maximise efficiency

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Foreman/Section Foreman in construction or civil engineering.
  • Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors.
  • CSCS Card and SMSTS required.
  • Full, current driving licence.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Experience with resource allocation, programme monitoring and daily reporting.
  • Experience on major projects involving earthworks, deep drainage and reinforced concrete is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate Gangers, direct labour and subcontractors.
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
  • Input into Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments, Task Briefings and Toolbox Talks.
  • Identify hazards and implement controls and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor plant, small tools and equipment for suitability and maintenance.
  • Carry out Safety, Environmental and Quality Tours.
  • Monitor progress against weekly programmes, KPIs and milestones.
  • Allocate labour, plant and resources to maximise efficiency.
  • Chair daily short-interval control meetings with site supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of labour and plant.
  • Identify requirements for setting out, permits to break ground and permits to lift.
  • Monitor project scope, identify additional works and help prevent scope creep.
  • Ensure the workforce has the correct information regarding specifications, workmanship and finish.
  • Support environmental requirements and promote continuous improvements in safety and efficiency.

Section Foreman - Major Energy Infrastructure Project

Contract: ASAP - September 2027

Sector: Energy / Civil Engineering / Infrastructure

Role: Section Foreman

We are recruiting an experienced Section Foreman to join a major energy infrastructure project in the North East of Scotland. This is a long-term opportunity overseeing a section of works and supervising direct labour, Gangers and subcontractors across a major construction programme. The job also provides accommodation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate Gangers, direct labour and subcontractors.
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
  • Input into Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments, Task Briefings and Toolbox Talks.
  • Identify hazards and implement appropriate controls and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor plant, small tools and equipment to ensure they are suitable and properly maintained.
  • Carry out Safety, Environmental and Quality Tours.
  • Monitor workmanship and promote a Right First Time culture.
  • Complete quality assurance using BIM Field 360 and support Inspection & Test Plans.
  • Monitor progress against weekly programmes, KPIs and key project milestones.
  • Allocate labour, plant and resources to maximise efficiency.
  • Chair daily short-interval control meetings with site supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate daily records and validate labour and plant records.
  • Identify requirements for setting out, permits to break ground and permits to lift.
  • Monitor project scope, identify additional works and help prevent scope creep.
  • Ensure the workforce has the correct information regarding specifications, workmanship and finish.
  • Support environmental requirements and promote continuous improvements in safety and efficiency.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Foreman / Section Foreman within construction or civil engineering.
  • Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors.
  • CSCS Card and SMSTS required.
  • Full, current driving licence.
  • Strong understanding of current Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Experience with resource allocation, programme monitoring and daily reporting.
  • Good understanding of construction specifications, tolerances, ITPs and contract documentation.
  • Experience delivering engaging Toolbox Talks.
  • Ability to manage works from start through to completion and handover.
  • Experience on major projects involving earthworks, deep drainage and reinforced concrete is desirable.
The Ideal Candidate

You will be a proactive, hands-on leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should be confident taking ownership, making decisions and resolving issues while maintaining an uncompromising approach to health and safety.

Flexibility to work nights, weekends and unsociable hours may be required.
