Prospero Teaching in Monmouth, Monmouthshire is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support students' academic progress and well-being in a busy secondary school.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, assisting learners with ADHD/SEMH needs, promoting engagement, organisation, and resilience, while building positive relationships.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with ADHD, SEMH needs, or SEND.
  • Strong understanding of ADHD strategies to support attention and regulation.
  • Good behaviour management and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in a secondary school setting is desirable.
  • Passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Support students to maintain focus, engagement, and participation during lessons.
  • Implement strategies for attention, organisation and emotional regulation.
  • Assist with transitions between lessons and school environments.
  • Monitor progress and report on well-being and engagement.
  • Build positive relationships with students based on trust and encouragement.

Salary: 95 - 108 per day
Working Hours: 08:30am - 15:30pm

About the Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students academic progress, emotional well-being, organisation, and self-regulation, helping them navigate the demands of secondary school while building confidence and independence.
We're looking for a patient and resilient individual who can develop a positive and trusting relationship with the students while maintaining high expectations and promoting positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the students in maintaining focus, engagement, and participation during lessons
  • Implement strategies to support attention, organisation, time management, and emotional regulation
  • Help manage transitions between lessons and different school environments
  • Promote positive behaviour and support the student in meeting individual targets
  • Build a strong, professional relationship with the student based on trust, consistency, and encouragement
  • Monitor and report on the student's progress, well-being, and engagement
Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with ADHD, SEMH needs, or other SEND requirements
  • A strong understanding of ADHD and the strategies that support attention, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Strong behaviour management, communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience working within a secondary school setting (desirable)
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Psychology, Youth Work, SEND, or a related field would be advantageous but are not essential
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential
