About Empowering Learning

Empowering Learning is an education recruitment agency that connects qualified, committed teachers and support staff with schools across Nottingham. We act as your employment business, handling your registration, compliance, bookings and pay, so you can focus on teaching.

The opportunity

We're looking for QTS-qualified secondary teachers to join our Nottingham supply pool. Supply work gives you control over when and where you work, and you'll have access to a wide range of secondary schools and academies across the city and county.

  • Choose the days you work and the bookings you accept
  • Day-to-day cover, plus short-term bookings of a few days or weeks
  • Variety of schools, so you gain experience in different settings
  • A route into long-term cover or a permanent post if your plans change

Supply is a good fit if you're returning to teaching, looking for flexibility around other commitments, building experience as an ECT, or want to try different schools before committing to one.

We have regular demand for Maths, Science, Computer Science and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as general cover across all subjects.

What the role involves
  • Delivering lessons set by the school, or planning your own where cover work is not provided
  • Teaching across KS3 and KS4, and KS5 where experience allows
  • Quickly establishing positive relationships and high standards of behaviour, following each school's behaviour policy
  • Keeping students on task and learning in a safe, inclusive environment
  • Taking registers and following school routines, including break and lunch duties where required
  • Leaving clear notes for the class teacher at the end of the day
  • Following school procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, and the code of conduct
  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately to the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
About you

Our registration and safer recruitment process

We follow safer recruitment practices in line with KCSIE and our obligations under the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003. Every teacher completes the following checks before working in any school:

  • An interview (in person or by video) to discuss your experience, motivation and suitability for working with children
  • Proof of identity, including photographic ID and proof of address
  • Right to work verification (including online share code checks where applicable)
  • An enhanced DBS check with barred list check, plus Update Service registration where possible
  • Verification of your qualifications, including QTS
  • A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) check to confirm you are not prohibited from teaching
  • Two satisfactory references, covering at least the last five years of employment or study
  • Overseas criminal record checks (or equivalent) if you have lived or worked outside the UK
  • A full employment history, with any gaps explained
  • Medical fitness confirmation for the role
  • Completion of safeguarding training, including KCSIE Part One

We'll guide you through each stage so you know exactly what's needed and when you can start. All placements are subject to these checks being completed to our and the school's satisfaction.
