Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a Dedicated Secondary SEND Teacher to join a specialist SEN provision. The role focuses on life-skills delivery, independence and transition planning for adolescents, with smaller classes and strong pastoral support.

You will work with Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS) and a trauma-informed approach, collaborating with therapists and transition specialists to build EHCP-informed timetables and meaningful daily learning.

Qualifications

• We are seeking qualified teachers with QTS/QTLS for secondary or specialist settings.
• Experience with SEND and autism-related needs (ASC, PMLD, SLD, SEMH) is highly valued.
• Fluency in trauma-informed practice and safeguarding expectations is required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a life-skills-based curriculum that supports independence and transition to adulthood.
• Lead a small class (6-12 students) with high staff-to-pupil ratios and intensive pastoral support.
• Collaborate with Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language specialists to align targets.
• Manage Learning Support Assistants and foster a low-arousal, regulated classroom.

Salary: £140 - £233 per day (Weekly Pay - dependent on experience)

We are seeking Qualified Secondary Teachers (QTS/QTLS) or experienced Primary practitioners ready to transition into Specialist Secondary Provision. In this role, you'll move beyond traditional academic benchmarks to focus on functional literacy, numeracy, and the "Preparation for Adulthood" framework.

• Curriculum Creativity: Step away from GCSE-heavy pressure and deliver a bespoke, life-skills-based curriculum that priorities social development and vocational exploration.

Your Role as a Secondary SEND Lead

As a Secondary SEND Teacher, you are a mentor, an educator, and a champion for your students' future autonomy.

• Functional Learning: Deliver engaging lessons that translate academic concepts into real-world skills-budgeting, travel training, and workplace communication.
• Communication & Expression: Use total communication strategies (Makaton, PECS, or AAC) tailored to teenage learners to ensure their voices are heard during their transition years.
• Holistic Support: Collaborate with Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language specialists to integrate therapeutic targets into a secondary-appropriate timetable.
• Leadership: Manage a dedicated team of Learning Support Assistants, fostering a "low-arousal" and emotionally regulated environment for students with complex needs.

Essential Requirements

• Hold QTS/QTLS: You have Qualified Teacher Status and experience within a Secondary or specialist setting.
• Are a SEND Advocate: You have a genuine interest in or experience with Autism (ASC), PMLD, SLD, or SEMH, and a passion for helping young people reach their full potential.
• Are Adaptable: You can manage complex behaviours with a trauma-informed approach and pivot lessons to meet the emotional energy of the classroom.
• Are Committed: You hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or are willing to apply) and are 100% dedicated to Safeguarding.
