Job summary

South Lanarkshire Council is hiring a Secondary Janitor at Calderside Academy, Calder Street, Blantyre. The role covers cleaning and janitorial duties, documentation preparation, and health/safety compliance.

The successful candidate will monitor grounds, liaise with contractors, log faults and communicate with management to meet daily needs. Temporary post until 24 December 2026 with a salary of £32,153–£32,862.

Qualifications

  • Experience in janitorial/maintenance environments preferred.
  • Good health and safety awareness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors and managers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure grounds and premises are kept safe, tidy and free from hazards.
  • Monitor lessees’ and contractors’ activities and report issues to line manager.
  • Log, monitor and report damage or faults to fabric and fixtures.
  • Liaise with external contractors and lessees ensuring health, safety and security procedures are followed.
  • Communicate with Facilities Manager, Head of Establishment and team to meet daily customer needs.

Location: Calderside Academy, Calder Street, Blantyre, G72 0AX

Hours: 42.5 hours per week (this includes 5 hours lets cover per week)

Work Pattern: Monday - Friday 7.30am - 4pm and Lets cover Monday - Friday 6pm - 9.30pm and Saturday 9am - 12.30pm 1 Saturday every 4 weeks

Salary: £32,153 - £32,862 annual salary

This post is temporary until24 December 2026.

We are looking to recruit a Secondary Janitor at Calderside Academy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of all documentation relating to the janitorial and cleaning function within the premises.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring unit grounds are kept in a safe and tidy order, free from dangerous articles ensuring Health and safety of staff and visitors.
  • To monitor the activities of lessee’s and contractors reporting any issues to line manager.
  • To log, monitor and report all damage/faults in relation to the fabric and fixtures.
  • To liaise with external contractors and lessee’s, ensuring all Health and Safety and security procedures are adhered to.
