Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a creative Design & Technology Teacher to join a welcoming secondary school in Barnsley from September 2026. You will deliver engaging DT lessons across KS3 and KS4, combining practical making with theory to foster problem-solving and creativity in students.

The role requires QTS or equivalent, strong classroom management, and a DBS Update Service check or willingness to obtain one. Start date September 2026, full-time contract.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching Design & Technology across KS3 and KS4.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage learners of all abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Milk Education.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and inspiring Design & Technology lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Teach both practical and theoretical elements of the curriculum, including designing, making, evaluating and technical knowledge.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where every student can succeed.
  • Assess, monitor and support student progress, adapting your teaching to meet a range of learning needs.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure all workshop and classroom activities comply with health and safety requirements.
  • Encourage creativity, independent thinking and confidence through hands-on learning.
  • Support extracurricular opportunities such as STEM projects, design competitions and enrichment activities where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver outstanding outcomes for students.
  • Maintain high professional standards while supporting the values and ethos of the school.
