Role overview

We’re looking for an experienced Second Line Assurance professional to join a busy, fast-paced Second Line Assurance team.

The job holder will report to the Head of Second Line Assurance and will work closely with the Compliance Monitoring Manager, the Risk and Compliance team as well as with members of senior management across DUAL UK.

The job holder will be responsible for planning, communicating, executing and reporting results in relation to a programme of controls testing, providing assurance to management that controls are designed appropriately and are operating effectively. Experience in planning and performing control assessments and using a variety of testing approaches is essential.


The job holder will need excellent organisation skills in order to deliver against an ambitious plan and great written communication skills in order to prepare impactful reports which drive action where needed.

The role will work alongside the various DUAL operational business units, as well as with its more centralised control functions such as Risk. Reporting of results will be to business line management as well as DUAL UK’s Executive Committee and to the Board. Experience of writing concise and insightful reports and performing data analysis will be essential.


The job holder will need to be able to work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues across a variety of business areas and be confident in working with colleagues from a variety of business areas and across all levels of seniority.

Role responsibilities

  • Working with the Head of Second Line Assurance to devise the risk-based annual Second Line Assurance annual plan for approval by the Board, with reference to DUAL UK’s risk and control framework.
  • To execute the Second Line Assurance plan, including planning reviews, conducting testing, analysing results and drawing conclusions.
  • To make recommendations for improvements in controls.
  • To prepare clear reporting of testing results for management and summary reporting of results for the CRO.
  • To work as part of a team, sharing practices and insights across the team.
  • To coordinate the annual Second Line Assurance risk assessment.
  • To establish value-adding relationships with risk & controls owners across DUAL.

Key requirements

  • 3 years' experience of performing end-to-end deep-dive reviews and control testing within a financial services environment, preferably insurance.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into a practical test plan.
  • Self-motivated to complete testing efficiently, accurately and to schedule.
  • Great interpersonal and influencing skills as you'll be working with many different teams within DUAL UK.
  • Ability to analyse data and draw meaningful conclusions from testing.
  • Ability to write coherent and insightful reporting, focusing on the 'so what' of test outcomes.
  • Confidence to make recommendations for improvements in controls environment.
  • Collaborative, knowledgeable and approachable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • This role may also be suitable for candidates that have an internal audit background.
