Job description

Are you ready to inspire and lead?

At Co-op Swinton, we are seeking a dynamic Second in Department for Mathematics to guide curriculum, foster collaboration, and elevate student outcomes! As part of Co-op Academies Trust, you will have the opportunity to innovate, inspire, and raise achievement levels across the school while working within a supportive leadership team.

Our aim is to ensure that our students are given every opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background. We are looking to appoint a second in department who shares our vision for an ambitious, supportive, and nurturing learning environment and curriculum. Alongside academic success, we prioritize students' behaviour and aim for high achievement in an environment based on rewards rather than sanctions. Working closely with our dedicated teaching staff and caring pastoral team, you will support our students through their secondary school journey, embodying our vision and values and demonstrating exceptional professional behaviours.

Why us?

Our academy caters to pupils aged 11-16. We are easily accessible from all areas of the North West, with Swinton train station less than a 5-minute walk. We have a dedicated team of staff who build positive relationships and foster a caring culture with our students. This was highlighted in our recent Ofsted inspection (June 2024), where we were graded ‘Good’ in all areas.

Our values are rooted in the Co-op Group's principles, guiding our behaviours:

  • Self-help: We aim to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.
  • Self-responsibility: Everyone should act responsibly on site and in the community, taking responsibility for their own learning to become independent learners.
  • Equality: We value our multicultural community and believe in treating everyone with respect, ensuring equal chances to succeed.
  • Equity: We seek to recognize and reward the best in each other to encourage all achievements.
  • Democracy: We contribute ideas to make the academy successful.
  • Solidarity: We believe in achieving more together than alone.
Our Values

As part of the Co-operative Group, our academy embodies core ethical values in all our actions, our ‘Ways of Being’:

  • Succeed together
  • Do what matters most
  • Be yourself, always
  • Show you care

If you share our values, we would love to hear from you!

Benefits and Rewards

We offer a wide range of benefits to recognize your contribution:

  • Co-op membership with a 10% discount in our Food stores
  • Flexible benefits including discounted line rental, broadband, family care advice, and cycle to work scheme
  • Discounted gym memberships and leisure activities, including Merlin Entertainments, Virgin Experience Days, SuperBreak, and more
  • Co-operative Credit Union with competitive dividends and interest rates

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and encourage applications from individuals regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, and marriage or civil partnerships.
