Job summary

Supreme Recruitment is recruiting HGV Class 2 drivers for Kent's winter highways operation from 1 October to 1 April. You will join the winter maintenance team, keeping roads safe during frost, ice and snow while operating on a rotating standby/call-out schedule.

Role involves driving designated routes, spreading salt and grit, and completing vehicle checks. Prior highways experience is a plus, with paid standby weeks and a £20 per hour call-out rate during active periods.

Qualifications

• Requires a valid HGV Class 2 (Cat C) licence.
• Requires Driver CPC and a valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• Demonstrates reliability and flexibility; able to respond to winter call-outs.
• Good communication and safety-first approach.
• Previous gritting/highways experience is beneficial but not essential for the right HGV driver.

Responsibilities

• Drive an HGV gritting vehicle on designated Kent routes.
• Spread salt and grit to prevent ice on the highway network.
• Respond to winter weather call-outs including frost, ice and snow.
• Carry out vehicle and safety checks before deployment.
• Maintain and follow gritting routes and operational instructions.
• Collaborate with depot and highways operations teams.
