Driver Hire Oxford is recruiting a HGV Class 2 Winter Maintenance Gritter Driver for DRAYTON, Oxfordshire. This year-round standby role features guaranteed weekly standby pay and additional call-out rates when required.

You will work weather-dependent shifts, receive onboarding via a digital handbook, and complete a short training course to obtain a Winter Ticket. The contract is zero-hours and runs for approximately five months.

We are currently recruiting a Class 2 Winter Maintenance Gritter Driver for our client, based at DRAYTON, Oxfordshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity to earn guaranteed standby pay throughout the winter season, plus additional call-out rates when required.

Standby Gritter Driver (Class 2)

Key Details

• Guaranteed Standby Payment: £241.37 per week (Friday AM to Friday AM)
• Plus, Call-out Pay: 5 hours at £21.25 per hour PAYE Adv, when called in to work
• Paid Training: One day theory + one day practical to obtain a Winter Ticket
• Contract: Zero-hours contract
• Contract Period:5 months
• Working Hours: Weather-dependent, maximum 5 hours gritting per shift with a 1-hour break. Possible 2 shifts in a 24-hour period (with a 10-hour rest between).
• Onboarding: Digital handbook via app; digi card to be downloaded weekly on site for compliance
• PPE Provided: Trousers, jackets, high-vis, hard hat, gloves (boots available if required)
• Operation: Runs 24/7 during winter months
• Daily Briefing: 11:00 am meeting to assess weather actions; call-outs may occur at short notice (early mornings or late evenings)

Important Notes

• Once committed, you cannot undertake other driving duties while on standby between November and March.
• All work is carried out on tachographs.
• Training dates will be confirmed in advance (starting September). Trainers get booked quickly during the winter period, so early confirmation is essential.
• It's important to consider your proximity to the site, as you will need to be on site within 1 hour of being called in, while driving with due care and diligence in severe weather conditions
