RNLI in Poole is recruiting a full-time Sea Survival Centre Trainer to deliver practical sea survival training and theory, assess learners, and supervise safety at the dedicated Sea Survival Centre in Poole.

The role requires at least 6 months of commercial maritime experience, high water confidence, and an interactive teaching style. Desirable qualifications include IMO Train the Trainer and a background in firefighting or first aid.

About the role

Do you have significant maritime and instructional experience and are seeking an exciting new role? The RNLI is recruiting for a full-time Sea Survival Centre Trainer in Poole.

There aren’t many jobs that combine the excitement and the thrill of training volunteer lifeboat crews in personal sea survival techniques, capsize training on the Atlantic and D class lifeboats, basic fire safety awareness and ultimately providing crew with the skills and knowledge to save lives at sea.

As a Sea Survival Centre Trainer, you will:

• Need to maintain a high level of fitness due to spending prolonged periods in the sea survival pool, whilst confidently teaching and ensuring student safety
• Deliver practical sea survival training and classroom-based theory sessions, at the dedicated Sea Survival Centre in Poole
• Conduct assessments and deliver feedback
• Ensure lifesaving training equipment is kept in good working order

To succeed in this role, you must have:

• A minimum of 6 months commercial maritime experience
• A high level of water confidence and fitness
• Knowledge of the RNLI and its operations
• An interactive and inclusive training style
• The ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and staff, course participants, and the existing training team

Desirable qualifications and experience for this role:

• IMO Train the Trainer (6.01) or equivalent teacher training qualifications
• Background in firefighting, sea survival or first aid

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the Institution’s medical and eyesight standards.
