Job summary

RNLI is seeking a Training Technician (Mechanic) to maintain the training fleet onshore and to serve as Mechanic on training vessels at sea. You will repair emergent defects quickly to ensure continuous availability of equipment and contribute to high safety standards.

Applicants should have maritime engineering knowledge and be at least an operator level as a Mechanic on an ALB. This role values dedication to RNLI's lifesaving mission.

Qualifications

• Maritime engineering background required.
• Operator level as Mechanic on an ALB (Active Lifeboat) is required.
• Strong onshore maintenance and quick defect repair experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Maintain training fleet onshore and perform repairs to ensure equipment availability.
• Act as Mechanic on training vessels when courses use the boats at sea.

Job description

Without the boats and other training equipment, the RNLI Trainers can't perform their job, which is where the Training Technician (Mechanic) steps in to save the day. Ensuring that the training fleet is maintained in tip top condition is your primary role. Repairing any emergent defects quickly and efficiently to ensure the availability of the equipment.
As well as the onshore maintenance role, you will act as Mechanic on the training vessels when the courses are using the boats at sea. You must be at least an operator level as a Mechanic on a current ALB. This face to face contact with the volunteers and staff on training courses presents many opportunities to learn, develop and enhance your life-boating skills. Your maritime engineering background will provide you with a thorough understanding of operating machinery on a range of craft, a detailed understanding of safety at sea as well as knowledge of repairing small craft.
